CalibreMinds in collaboration with Escentrick dance, currently host dance workshops every Friday and Saturday at the Bridge Academy E2. The aim of the workshop is to offer dance to young people as a fun, keep fit, engaging activity and provide a positive avenue for the local at risk youth to get involved in. The workshop was pioneered by Founder of Escentrick and a member of CalibreMinds, Rymel “Wacky” Lawrence who entered and won a competition supported by MTV and the Home Office called ‘Good for the Hood’. The prize was a year’s performance space to host dance activities for his local community. Due to the success of the project, CalibreMinds became involved and now offer on-going support.
As well as getting the ‘at risk’ youths off the streets the workshops presents us with the perfect opportunity to provide a mentoring service to them, with the aim of keeping them on the right track and positively focussed.
